Knoxville police officers are investigating an early morning stabbing that sent one person to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Around 4:45 Wednesday morning, officers were called to the Morris Motel on Clinton Highway for a stabbing call.

Investigators say when officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Tony Good of Mohawk with several severe cuts to his upper body.  He was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect, 44-year-old Troy Welch of Russellville, was taken into custody at the scene.

Investigators say the two men, who are brothers, had an "alcohol fueled altercation" earlier in the evening and Welch attacked the victim while he slept in retaliation.

Welch was being held on a $10,000 bond Wednesday on an aggravated assault charge.
