Former UT football coach Phillip Fulmer announced Thursday that this year's Alzheimer's Walk raised more than $240,000, setting a new record.
Legendary Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt played a large role in this year's campaign after announcing her own diagnosis with the disease last year.
Organizers say that helped to energize the fight and prove it's not a disease that discriminates.
"It affects your friends, your family, your co-workers. It's such a devastating disease for a family," said Karen Kackney, a volunteer.
This year's total was up 14 percent from last year.
