Monday marked day five in the search for an escaped federal prisoner. Somehow, Dewyatt Hill was released from the Blount County Jail Wednesday.
U.S. Marshals tell 10News Hill faces a 71-year sentence after being convicted for multiple take-over style pharmacy robberies.
A special team of regional marshals, The Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force, is leading the Hill investigation.
A federal official said the team is working around the clock.
Fugitive searches usually include surveillance, interviews and tip information.
Marshals said this investigation will have two parts.
First, federal officials will focus on putting Hill back behind bars. Then, marshals will investigate what happened inside the Blount County Jail to allow the federal prisoner's release.
10News has asked the Blount County Sheriff's Office how and why Dewyatt Hill was released from the jail. Officials with the Sheriff's Office continue to deny the request for an interview about those details.
