Gas prices are rising this month despite earlier expectations that costs would fall.
AAA reported the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas in Knoxville is $3.40. This price is up more than 10 cents since last week. The average price of gas appears to be following the same trend across the U.S.
Experts predicted gas prices would drop in August. They said this unexpected increase in August is in part due to the tropical storm, "Ernesto."
