CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Chattanooga zoo officials say one of their cougars died suddenly but the cause of death was not immediately known.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the cougar, named Coby, collapsed and died Tuesday afternoon around closing time.
According to zoo Director Darde Long, a necropsy was done on the cougar, but zoo officials are waiting to talk to University of Tennessee technicians to get the results.
Coby was believed to be about 9 years old and was one of two cougars at the zoo when their exhibit opened in September 2005.
The newspaper said the two cougars were brought to the zoo after the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confiscated them from private owners.
