An illness has forced Young-Williams Animal Center to halt dog and puppy adoptions at their main location until Wednesday, September 5.
Officials say several dogs at the Division St. location have contracted a contagious upper respiratory infection, so they have quarantined the canine areas to prevent the spread. Veterinarians are checking out the dogs.
Cat and small mammal adoptions will continue on Division St.
You can still adopt dogs and puppies at the Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill.
Staff at Young-Williams says space is very limited during this quarantine process, and while they never turn away an animal, they ask people that plan to owner-surrender their pets please wait until Tuesday. They add that they have many options to help struggling pet owners, including the Pet Food Pantry.
Young-Williams has cancelled an adoption event scheduled for Saturday at the Big Lots on Broadway.
