The Fulton Falcons played their first game ever in the school's new $1.2 million football stadium Saturday night.

Everything in the stadium is practically new, according to Fulton Athletic Director Jody Wright. The school installed a new press box, wheelchair ramps, and aluminum stands to replace the cracked concrete ones that were in the old football stadium.

"A lot of amenities that we're pleased with," Wright said. "[We have] bleachers on the visiting side, which we haven't had in about 30 years."

The new stadium can seat around 4,200 people according to Wright. The previous stadium, which had been around for 47 years, could only seat 3,600.

Fred Waters played for Fulton in the early 1970s. He told 10News he was happy to see Knox County Schools provide some of its older institution with money to rebuild their facilities.

He said the new stadium looked great.

"Means a lot to the community," he said. "It means a lot to the city."

Fulton Head Coach Rob Black agrees. He said his team is looking forward to playing even more games in its new stadium.

"We're going to start some new stuff here and have some new traditions and our kids are real excited about it," he said.

The school's field, which is named for Fulton sports legend Bob Black, was not replaced.

Fulton will play its next game in its new stadium September 14.
