Retired Maryville department store CEO, Fred Proffitt, died Tuesday.
He was president and CEO of the family department store Proffitt's from 1985 until his retirement in 1989.
His retirement allowed him to devote more time to the community through organizations like the Red Cross where he served as a board member.
Proffitt's, which was started in downtown Maryville in 1919, was sold in 2005 to Charlotte, NC based Belk.
Any memorial contributions can be sent to the American Red Cross.
