A veteran rehabilitation program is hoping to add a Knoxville branch.

Project Healing Waters, a fly fishing program dedicated to helping veterans and disabled military personnel heal, held a volunteer drive at Three Rivers Angler Fly Shop in Bearden on Thursday.

Organizers are hoping to start a local chapter, but first need people willing to help.

Project leader Steve Thompson says the group is about more than just casting a line.

"Well I think it's therapy as well as someone to talk to. Ya know, when you get to a fly tying event, there's several people sitting around. Some of the volunteers will be just good listeners as well as coaches and tying flies and just work with people to develop a new skill and develop new friends," he said.

Healing Waters hopes to start having events in November.
