A Loudon County church hosted an event Saturday that could save the life of a grandmother.

Organizers say they had a large turnout for a bone marrow drive for Brenda Aikens. Aikens is fighting MDS, a blood-related disorder once known as pre-leukemia.

Bone marrow drives only require people to give a swab from their mouth. That's how doctors find a match.

Aikens is married to Lenoir City Mayor and Chief Deputy Tony Aikens.
