United Way of Sevier County continues to face financial troubles. The chapter says it will close unless it gets major support.

Now, the county's mayor is starting an effort to save the chapter.

Mayor Larry Waters says he's working to bring community leaders together to see if there's a way forward for the United Way. Waters says so far, the people he's talked with want to find a way to help. They're working to set a meeting date for sometime in October.

19 local organizations currently receive funding from the Sevier County chapter.
