Hawkins County Sheriff's deputies have confiscated and destroyed 17 video poker machines.
According to the Kingsport Times-News, Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said he warned three businesses earlier this month that the machines were illegal.
In response to citizen complaints, Lawson's deputies seized gambling devices at the Stanley Valley Pool Hall, the St. Clair Market and the Bulls Gap VFW hall.
Lawson said the veterans group freely gave up eight machines.
No one has claimed ownership and the sheriff's office confiscated more than $8,500 in cash. Officials will seek forfeiture of the cash to go into the county general fund.
Lawson said if the businesses bring in the machines again, they will be investigated and people will be charged.
