Some local soldiers helped with an effort to provide clothing to Knox County school children in need.

Members of the 844th Engineer Battalion drove trucks to 16 different schools on Friday to pick up bags of donated clothing as part of an annual collection drive. They took the clothes to the Knox County Council PTA clothing center, where they will be given to children in need for free.

The soldiers say they are happy to be a part of the effort.

"We want to be able to help out the community because we are part of the community. We are members of the community, and it is always a good thing to be involved in such a positive way," said Public Affairs Officer Michael Cassaday.
