Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero is challenging businesses to take energy efficient steps. $10 million in loans are up for grabs to make that happen.
It's all thanks to a partnership between the city and Pathway Lending, a Nashville-based non-profit lender.
Businesses can apply for low-interest loans for things like HVAC replacements or upgrading their lighting.
Mayor Rogero says investing in energy efficiency makes business sense.
"If you have high utility bills, it's a cost that's not necessary when you have access to energy efficient products and now access to funding," she said.
The city says on average, each dollar a business invests in an energy efficiency project brings in $2.84 in return.
