Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation issued a no contact advisory for parts of the New River in Scott County.

This advisory includes the lower portion of the river, including a section within the Big South Fork.

TDEC officials have warned people not to swim, kayak or fish in the river because of operational failures at a Huntsville waste-water treatment plant.

TDEC issued a similar advisory in March, after untreated sewage spilled into the river. Officials said right now the plant is experiencing mechanical problems where waste cannot go through all levels of treatment.
