New development is in the works for the former Powell Airport site.
The Kroger Company is asking the Knoxville and Knox County officials to rezone the land, located just off I-75 at Emory Road.
Kroger wants to put in a shopping center with a grocery store, shops and a fuel center.
The Metropolitan Planning Commission gave the plan a green light at a meeting Thursday, and next month it goes to City Council for approval.
