People danced off calories at the YMCA Zumbathon on Sunday to help give local families and kids and extra boost.

Every penny from the fundraiser went towards helping families in need. Proceeds will go towards YMCA programs that provide services like tutoring, swim lessons and summer camps to people who could otherwise afford it.

Latin dance is the inspiration behind Zumba, which is the most popular dance-fitness program in the world. YMCA Zumbathon coordinator Alex Sands said Zumba has a bit of everything, from salsa to hip hop.

"Anybody can do it," said Sands. "It's for all fitness levels, all ages. From children to senior citizens get involved with it, and it's just a big party."

People donated $20 to participated. Organizers said Zumbathon raised $1,400 on Sunday.
