A group of landowners, who own property on the proposed Jefferson County Mega-site, met in White Pine to spread their message of concern regarding the new development.

During it's meeting, the group, "Save Our Farms and Homes," talked about other towns in the southeast, including two in Tennessee that have had mega-site proposals in the past, which eventually fell through.

Members said these towns, including Crockett County and Clarksville, Tenn., fell into debt after proposals fell apart.

SOFH said it doesn't want Jefferson County to suffer the same fate and fears the site would develop more problems for East Tennessee.

Buddy Carmichael is a part of SOFH and is a land owner as well. He said the mega-site is not only a risk for the economy, but it could cause travel headaches as well.

"To come through that interchange at 81 and 40, and if they have that exit for the mega-site, it would cause so much congestion, it will make it so much harder to go through there," said Carmichael.

More than 30 people, generally all land owners, participated in the special meeting.
