The National Weather Service confirmed two separate tornadoes
touched down in rural Rutherford and Dickson Counties during severe
weather Monday morning.
An EF-0 tornado with winds between 80-85
miles per hour touched down in the Christiana area in Rutherford County
near Interstate 24, and another tornado, likely an EF-1 with winds of at
least 86 miles per hour, hit near Vanleer in Dickson County hours
before.
Surveyors are still on the scene in Dickson County
investigating the damage from the storms, said meteorologist Larry
Vannozzi. More information is expected from Dickson County later, he
said.
The Rutherford County storm was estimated to have lasted for three miles and was around 100 yards wide, Vannozzi said.
Several
strong thunderstorms rolled through Middle Tennessee mid-morning,
causing the handful of injury-producing crashes that dotted roads across
the Nashville area.
Tornado warnings were issued in parts of
several counties, including Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Wilson,
Dickson and Montgomery counties.
Chilly temperatures are expected to settle in after the storms tonight, with lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s.
