Some of the biggest names in Olympic swimming practiced Thursday morning in Knoxville in front of thousands of fans. The swimmers made the cut and the USA Team chose the Allan Jones Aquatic Center to practice. The swimmers who will head to London have practiced all week on campus.
Thursday morning, the first 1200 fans watched Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and the rest of the U.S. Olympic Swim Team practice.
The team includes two local swimmers, Davis Tarwater and Claire Donahue.
Claire Donahue's home team, called the Blount Area Swim Team, also planned to take a big group to the practice.
Two girls, Rachel Wrenn and Holly Jones, used to swim with Claire, "We have so much excitement for her. It's like that girl swam on my team, that's her."
Other swimming fans from all over East Tennessee woke up early. Sarah Walker said she was up just to see, "Michael Phelps."
Seating at the event was first come, first serve.
Doors opened at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on UT Campus at 8:00 a.m.
The first 1200 people were allowed inside for one hour.
This is the first time the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center has been used by the Olympic Team. The U.S. Olympic Swimming team used an older facility prior to the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
