The Tennessee Volunteers began fall football practice Friday afternoon at Haslam Field.
Coach Derek Dooley said his team was in good physical condition, but not in "football shape."
Dooley said he was pleased with the first practice session. He will welcome his freshmen and junior college transfers in an evening practice session.
The Vols will work on campus until next Thursday, and then camp for a week at Milligan College.
Tennessee opens the season in Atlanta at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic in the Georgia Dome against North Carolina State on Friday, August 31.
