Former Vol Aries Merritt competes in 110m hurdle finals

Aries Merritt of USA won gold in the 110m hurdles in 12.92 seconds.  His teammate Jason Richardson of USA took the silver.

His time was his personal best by .01 seconds and the fastest time of the year in the world.

Former UT track star Aries Merritt roared into Wednesday night's Olympic final in the 110-meter hurdles with the fastest time of three semifinal heats.

Merritt ran 12.94 seconds to win his heat.

His American teammate Jason Richardson took his heat in 13.13 and world record-holder Dayron Robles of Cuba won the other in a season-best of 13.10.
