Maryville and West square off tonight in the battle of the Rebels, a District 4-AAA game.
Maryville extended its winning streak to 31 games on Sunday with a nationally televised 42-24 victory over rival Alcoa.
The West Rebels squeaked out a one-point victory over the resurgent Fulton Falcons last week. Zach Stuart is known for his defensive exploits but the senior caught the game-winning touchdown from the tight end position for West.
West has reached the 5A state semifinals two years in a row and returns quarterback Ryan Francis. The Rebel defense features the highly touted Stuart and Week Zero Defensive Player of the Week winning linebacker Cody Underwood.
Maryville won last year's match-up 30-7.
Some players to look for on the Maryville side include junior running back Shawn Prevo, senior quarterback Nick Myers, defensive back Brian Coulter and senior wide receiver T.J. Kimble.
In other Friday night action, Sevier County travels to Jefferson County for its first test of the season.
The Smoky Bears swept the Player of the Week awards for Week 1, with quarterback Luke Manning taking the offensive award and Dillon Cate winning on defense.
Manning has won both of the offensive awards this season and enters the night 31-of-36 for 551 yards and ten touchdowns.
Jefferson County has been impressive with margins of victory of 40 and 18 points to start the year.
Defending state champion CAK will open district play without star receiver and Tennessee commit Josh Smith, who suffered a broken collarbone in the Warriors win over Darlington (Ga.).
