A former Lady Vol basketball and NEB star discussed a difficult subject with UT students Wednesday.
Chamique Holdsclaw shared her struggle with clinical depression, and even a suicide attempt, several years ago.
Wednesday's talk is part of the Vol Aware Initiative, aimed at preventing violence, suicide and substance abuse.
"I made a pact with God. I know how its effected me and my friends. I share my story to help people cope and not suffer in silence," said Holdsclaw.
Holdsclaw was part of three consecutive national championship teams with the Lady Vols from 1996 to 1998.
She played professionally for 11 years.
Her former coach, Pat Summitt, and members of the current Lady Vols basketball team were there to hear what Holdsclaw had to say.
