New Zealand National Team member Hannah Wilkinson recently joined the Lady Vols soccer team. She made her debut for the Lady Vols this past weekend in California at Cal State Northridge and No. 2 UCLA.
Wilkinson arrived in Knoxville a few days ago after playing in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup for New Zealand and the 2012 London Olympics, where the Kiwis reached bracket play and lost to the U.S.
"The Olympics was fantastic. It was unreal the way you were treated as an athlete in the Olympic Village," Wilkinson said
After all the travel this summer, she's ready to start her college career for Brian Pesky's team. "It's like the baby you find on the steps of the movies," Pensky said. "All of a sudden this kid is dropped in the middle of Knoxville, Tennessee and looks up like where am i right now?"
Wilkinson says teammates have helped ease the transition with some good old-fashioned southern hospitality.
"It's a bit difficult at the moment," she said. "But all the girls on the team are making it a lot easier for me. Everyone around here is so friendly and making it easier. Hopefully i adjust soon."
