Coach Derek Dooley won't be on the field for the Vols' Saturday game against Mississippi State. But he'll still be making all the calls.
Dooley had hip surgery on Tuesday, to repair a fracture. He missed Wednesday morning's practice, but says he plans to be back at practice on Thursday and will travel to Starkville, Mississippi with the team. He plans to coach the game from the press box.
At practice Wednesday morning, his assistant coaches maintained that even though the head coach won't be walking the sidelines in his orange pants, he will still be making the calls from the booth.
The team will communicate by headset, as they regularly do, and Dooley will continue to make all the calls he normally does.
