Once fans go beyond the titles and his record, many may be left asking 'who is Butch Jones?'

Born in Saugatuck Michigan, he played football at Ferris State as a running back and wide receiver before starting his coaching journey as an intern for the Tampa Bay Bucks.

He played football at Ferris state as a running back and wide receiver before starting his coaching journey as an intern for the Tampa bay bucks.

But what will that mean for Vol Nation?

10News reached out to journalists who have been covering his tenure at Cincinnati for some perspective.

Fox 19 Sports Director Brian Giesenschlag has covered Jones' three years at Cincinnati.

"He's a classic blue collar guy. He grew up in a small town and I think even as his star has kind of been on the rise as a coach, he's been able to stay true to who he is," says Giesenschlag.

If Jones didn't win you over at the press conference, Giesenschlag says don't be too quick to judge.

"He's not the most dynamic speaker. He doesn't have the most engaging personality," says Giesenschlag.

But he's a hard worker, with a technical game.

"Good 'x's' and 'o's' guy. His teams play smart, they play very disciplined. I think that he said would his team at Cincinnati this year is that they over achieved. And I think that's exactly right."

Some fans have voiced concerns over whether his Big East rep will be enough to pull in recruits this season.

But Giesenschlag says he's a man who knows how to work with what he's got.

"I think what he's done historically as a head coach is he's gotten the most out of the talent that he has."

So take a seat Tennessee fans. Six years is a long time to get acquainted. After this week, we're just glad to get started.
