JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- East Tennessee State athletic director Dave Mullins is stepping down and will take a new position with the athletic department.
Former VCU athletic director Richard Sander will serve as East Tennessee State's interim AD during the transition period.
Mullins will become a special assistant to the president for athletics, a position that focuses on fundraising and facility development. He is moving into that position in a full-time role Wednesday. When he officially retires from his full-time role at the school June 30, Mullins will continue performing that special assistant's job in a part-time capacity.
Mullins, the East Tennessee State men's tennis coach from 1987 to 2002, took over as the school's interim athletic director in December 2002 and was formally named athletic director in April 2003.
