Derek Dooley hired as Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach

It's official: Derek Dooley will be joining the Dallas Cowboys on the sidelines.

Our NBC sister station in Dallas reported that the Dallas Cowboys hired the former University of Tennessee football coach as its new wide receivers coach.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news on its website late Saturday night.

UT fired Dooley back in November after a 15-21 record over three season with the Volunteers.  

Dooley and current Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett worked together as assistants with the Miami Dolphins several years ago.

Vols former head coach Derek Dooley is reportedly in negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys to become their next wide receivers coach, according to ESPN.

ESPN football analyst Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter Saturday night.

UT fired Dooley after three seasons after posting a 15-21 record with the Vols.

Dooley worked with Dallas head coach Jason Garrett on the Miami Dolphins staff several years ago. Both were assistant coaches.

Our NBC sister station in Dallas says Dooley interviewed for the job this week during the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL.

As of 11pm Saturday night, neither the Cowboys nor Dooley had confirmed the hire.
