A Maryville student athlete performed CPR and saved a man's life during the state wrestling tournament.

Heritage High School junior Schuyler LaRue performed CPR on a Ron Bussey, 68, of Kingsport before competing in his match.

Bussey collapsed at the Williamson County Ag Expo before the tournament began Thursday afternoon.

Schuyler said he just did what he needed to do until EMT arrived. Emergency crews transported Bussey to the hospital and according to The Tennessean hew was in stable condition last night.

Heritage High School's principal Earl McMahan told The Tennessean he heard the news this morning about his student's heroic act.

"What's really amazing about it, is a young man trying to get himself mentally and physically prepared to wrestle one of the biggest matches in his life, and then having to perform an act to save a human being," said McMahan. "So that's very indicative of Schuyler."

Principal McMahan said Schuyler competes in several sports and is an outstanding student.
