The Tennessee Lady Vols had a rather brisk wind and some chilled fans for their home opener Tuesday evening against Lipscomb.
Ellen Renfroe started the game off strong on the mound and Raven Chavanne had a big day as the Lady Vols win it, 6-0.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Melissa Davin scored the first run and drove in two more and Ellen Renfroe and Ivy Renfroe combined for eight strikeouts in a shutout as No. 7/9 Tennessee took a 6-0 victory over Lipscomb in its home opener on Tuesday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
The Lady Vols (14-2) scored two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to cruise past the Bison (7-7) and win their 13th straight home opener. The win also marked Tennessee's 76th straight win over an in-state opponent and Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly improved to 71-0 against in-state foes as UT's co-head coaches. The Lady Vols are now 105-3 against in-state opponents all-time.
Davin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, one triple and two runs scored. Cheyanne Tarango was 2-for-3, Hannah Akamine had an RBI single and Raven Chavanne was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Ivy Renfroe (5-0) earned the win after striking out three over three shutout relief frames. Ellen Renfroe started the game and fanned five over four scoreless innings.
Heather Parker (3-3) took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) over five innings. Tanner Sanders tossed a scoreless sixth in relief.
Tennessee left the bases loaded in the first and remained locked in a pitching duel through the first four and a half innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, UT took the lead when Davin scored on a receiving error at third after Akamine reached on a fielding error at second. Two batters later, Chavanne knocked a sac fly to shallow left to plate pinch runner Hannah Trainer and give Tennessee a 2-0 edge.
The Lady Vols poured on four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch runner Whitney Hammond scored when Lauren Gibson rippled a single to left and both advanced on a fielding error. Two batters later, Davin hammered a two-RBI triple to right center to push UT's lead to 5-0. Akamine followed two batters later with an RBI single to left.
Tennessee will next head to Charleston, S.C., to play College of Charleston on Thursday. From Friday through Sunday, UT will play in the Buccaneer Invitational in North Charleston, S.C., facing UNC-Wilmington, Valparaiso and host Charleston Southern.
The Lady Vols will open SEC play when they return to Knoxville, hosting Alabama in a three-game series from March 8-10.
