Born and raised in East Tennessee, one Knoxville businessman is making his mark in the NFL, and Wednesday, Jimmy Haslam shared his experience from his first season.
Haslam bought the Cleveland Browns last October, and describes the last few months as a rebuilding process. He says he likes the people they have in place and the energy, but it will take some time to see how that translates on the field.
And although he's traded out Vol orange for a different shade on Sundays, Haslam says he's devoted to both teams.
"Literally it's just like Knoxville; the mood of the town goes up and down with how well the football team is doing. They have a pro basketball team and a pro baseball team, but football is the sport up there cause that's where pro football started," said Haslam.
He says he's enjoying managing both Pilot Flying J and the Browns, and splits his time between Knoxville and Cleveland.
He spoke Wednesday as part of the Knoxville Chamber's Executive Speaker Series.
