Knoxville, TN - (April 24, 2013) The Southern Professional Hockey League today announced that Mark Williamson of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been selected as the Sportstape Equipment Manager of the Year in a vote of coaches and league personnel.

Mark is in his fifth season as the Head Equipment Manager for the Ice Bears. He began his career with Knoxville as a volunteer assistant in the 2003-2004 season and continued in that capacity until taking over the head position in 2007-2008.

"Having mark at the rink each and every day always made coming to work a little more enjoyable. His passion and genuine care for the players for not only their equipment needs but their wellbeing is second to none," said head coach Mike Craigen.

Mark has been member of all the Knoxville Ice Bears SPHL championship teams 2005-06, 2007-08 and 2008-09. During his tenure, he has been the primary constant in the locker room as the team had enjoyed success from its four coaches over the life of the franchise.

The Knoxville Ice Bears are preparing for the start of the 2013-14 season and the first event of the new season will be the 2013 Knoxville Ice Bears Charity Golf Classic on Monday, May 6 at Gettysview Country Club to support the development of youth hockey in East Tennessee. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association (KAHA) to provide financial support to need based youth players.
