After a lengthy absence, Halls softball team is looking to make the state tournament this season. That begs the question: Just how long has it been since halls softball team has been to the state tournament?
"'95 or '96 I'd say," according to Halls head coach Bryan Gordon.
That's quite a drought for a team whose players were was born in that era. Players say just making it to Spring Fling would be an accomplishment.
"We've talked about it all year," said pitcher Lexie Helm. "We just want to prove people wrong."
Halls has a shot, sporting a 35-4 regular season record. The Lady Devils could make some noise in the postseason. Pitchers Helm and Tori Branum have been a dynamic 1-2 punch all season. Coach Bryan Gordon says it's more than just pitching that's made this group state worthy.
"This team gets along on the field and off. That makes all the difference....I'll take 'em against anybody," says Gordon.
A team that likes genuinely likes each other, with talent to boot. Halls may indeed see its long drought end this season.
