Tennessee Softball: Chavanne, E. Renfroe, Shipman earn Capital One Academic All-District honors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Raven Chavanne and juniors Ellen Renfroe and Madison Shipman were named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Chavanne, Renfroe and Shipman were all named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 3 First Team. Chavanne and Renfroe were both 2012 Capital One Academic All-Americans and 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 3 First Team selections. Chavanne was also a 2011 Capital One Academic All-American and a 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team selection. Shipman has earned Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career.

The Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first-team, second-team and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Chavanne, who is also a finalist for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, is a political science major with a 3.84 GPA entering the spring. She enjoying one of her finest seasons as a Lady Vol in 2013, batting an SEC-best .474 with a career high of six homers. She has also stolen 35 bases to give her 137 for her career - a new Tennessee record. Chavanne is also a Top 25 Finalist for the 2013 USA Softball Player of the Year award and was named SEC Player of the Week and USA Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 18-24.

Renfroe is a psychology major with a 3.76 GPA entering the spring. She is 15-2 in the circle with a 1.69 ERA and leads the team with 148 strikeouts and 136.1 innings pitched. Renfroe was named a Top 25 Finalist for the 2013 USA Softball Player of the Year award and earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of April 1-7.

Shipman is enjoying an outstanding season as well, having started all 49 games at shortstop. The anthropology major had a 3.51 GPA entering the spring and is batting .390 on the season with nine homers, 17 doubles, 50 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Her 17 doubles are tied for the most in the SEC. Shipman was a named to the Top 50 "Watch List" for 2013 USA Softball Player of the Year at the start of the season.
