Former Lady Vol Kara Lawson honored

The WNBA announced that Kara Lawson has been selected to receive the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award for her community efforts in 2012.

The award comes with a $10,000 gift by the WNBA to the recipient's charitable organization of choice. Lawson, the Connecticut Sun guard and University of Tennessee Lady Vols All-American designated that her gift go to The Pat Summitt Foundation.

Foundation founder Pat Summitt said, "Congratulations to Kara Lawson on receiving the prestigious Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award. Dawn and Kara are tremendous role models for young women and each have made it a point to give of their time, talents and resources to provide an assist for those in need."

"Kara was one of the very first people to offer her help to assist the Pat Summitt Foundation in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. She has personally raised funds, and in turn has inspired others to do so, as well. She is an integral part of our Foundation, and I am so proud of her accomplishments on and off the court."
