KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee junior Dalton Saberhagen has been named to the 2013 Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service Team for his outstanding efforts in giving back to the Knoxville community, the league office announced Monday.

Thanks in large part to Saberhagen's hard work in organizing and leading the team's volunteer efforts, the UT baseball team was named the recipient of the Big Orange Cup at the 2013 Volscars. The award is presented to the team that participates in the most community service events over the course of the school year.

In October, Saberhagen handed out candy and interacted with local children during UT's annual "VOLoween" trick-or-treat festivities and also participated in a Halloween event at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. He and his teammates later took part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk to pay tribute and bring hope to those battling blood cancer.

Saberhagen also volunteered with the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters at a special movie night for kids, assisted at a free youth baseball clinic and helped the Vols hold a headshaving event, raising over $3,000 for the Vs. Cancer Foundation and East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

On May 15, Saberhagen and the Vols hosted a clinic for the Knoxville Challenger League, which allows youngsters with special needs to play their favorite sports.

The SEC supports a Community Service Teams for all 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts. For the complete SEC Baseball Community Service Team, visit SECSports.com.
