One of the Vols' biggest rivals made an appearance in Big Orange Country Tuesday for a speech.

Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban traveled to the McMinn County city of Athens for the event. More than 1,500 people attended the Athens Chamber of Commerce event at a cost of $50 per ticket.

For the most part, Saban's speech was well received by the majority Crimson Tide crowd.

"You know we have really good support and a really good fan base just about everywhere we go." Saban said. "I think one of the reasons we've been successful is our fans are such a big part of our team."

Saban commented that he was from a small town like Athens too, that was part of the reason he did not pass up the opportunity.

"This is not about Tennessee, this is not about Alabama," he said. "It's about what we do for people, and we're here to support the chamber today."

An Alabama fan from Knoxville, Johnny Sharp told 10News he did not understand why Vols fans had criticized the event.

"They're losing [the Vols], they're crybabies, that's all I can say," he said. "I wish he came to Knoxville."

There was some orange in the crowd too. Vols fan Eddie Cansler said he liked Saban's speech too.

"Nick Saban's a great man, he's a great motivational speaker," he said.
