The University of Tennessee announced plans Wednesday to honor Lady Vol Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt with a campus plaza with a bronze statue on two main streets leading to Thompson-Boling Arena.
According to a university press release, the plaza and statue at the corner of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Philip Fulmer Way will honor not only Summitt but also the Lady Vols basketball program.
Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart said in the press release, "Generations to come will enjoy seeing this beautiful statue and plaza named for this exceptional leader, role model and the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history."
"This is a well-deserved honor for my coach, mentor and friend," said Lady Vols Head Coach Holly Warlick in the press release. "She will always be a legend for Tennesseans and others throughout the country."
