Senior defensive back Cam Sutton will miss an "extended period of time" with an ankle injury, Tennessee Vols coach Butch Jones said Saturday.
Sutton left Saturday's 28-19 win over Ohio with an apparent lower body injury. The star cornerback hurt himself making a tackle in the second quarter, and was on the ground in pain following the play.
Freshman Baylen Buchanan, who has garnered comparisons to Sutton, filled the senior's spot.
"Really proud of Baylen Buchanan," Jones said after the game. "Here's an individual whose reps have been very minimal and he steps up and made some really big plays for us when we were shorthanded in the secondary."
All of Sutton, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Quart'e Sapp, and Danny O'Brien were shaken up on plays and missed snaps during Saturday's game. Sapp left the game on crutches with ice on his left knee. Jones said he was hopeful Reeves-Maybin would play in Week 4's contest against Florida. O'Brien returned and finished Saturda'ys game.
The Vols were already missing linebacker Darren Kirkland Jr, wide receiver Josh Smith, and defensive end LaTroy Lewis due to injury entering the weekend.
