Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Demetrius Walker shot a perfect 5-of-5 from
three-point range en route to 19 points as the New Mexico Lobos defeated the
Idaho Vandals, 73-58, in non-conference action at The Pit.
Alex Kirk narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds for
New Mexico (5-0), while Kendall Williams scored 10 points and handed out seven
assists. Tony Snell also had seven assists, and Kirk added three blocked
shots.
For Idaho (1-3), Connor Hill scored a game-high 20 points and was also
successful from long range, draining 6-of-12 three-point attempts. Kyle Barone
scored 16 points, and although Mike McChristian went scoreless, he helped out
the Vandals with eight assists.
The back-and-forth first half ended in a 36-36 tie with both teams shooting
greater than 46 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Idaho took a 49-46 lead with 14:14 left to play in the second half on a pair
of Barone free throws, but from there the Aggies took over by ripping off a
19-0 run over the next eight minutes to take control of the game.
New Mexico shot 15-of-22 from the foul line, while Idaho was just 4-of-8 from
the stripe. The Aggies' bench outscored the Vandals', 34-7.
