Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Reed scored a game-high 19 points,
leading four players in double figures, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
recorded a 65-56 win over the Gaels of Saint Mary's-CA in the third-place game
of the DirecTV Classic at Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
Mfon Udofia, Marcus Georges-Hunt and Robert Carter all tallied 11 points for
the Yellow Jackets (4-1) in the triumph.
The Gaels (4-2) were paced by Stephen Holt who dropped in 10 points, pulled
down nine rebounds and handed out four assists before fouling out. Matthew
Dellavedova shot only 1-of-8 from the floor as he finished with five points,
although he did account for eight assists in the losing cause.
SMC led by as many as six points in the first half, thanks to a defense that
held the Yellow Jackets to just 9-of-28 shooting from the floor and 1-of-8
behind the three-point line. As a result, the Gaels retained a slim 26-22
advantage at the break.
In the second half it was time for the Gaels to have their issues from the
field, hitting on just 8-of-26, including 3-of-12 on the perimeter, which
allowed GaTech to battle back and assume the lead, en route to the nine-point
win.
Saint Mary's won the battle of the boards by a 38-26 margin, but turning the
ball over 21 times is what cost the team the most.
