Harrisonburg, VA (Sports Network) - Kevin Larsen scored 12 points to help lift
the George Washington Colonials to a dramatic 54-53 win over the James Madison
Dukes in a hard-fought battle at the JMU Convocation Center.
Larsen shot 5-of-10 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds for the Colonials
(3-3), while Joe McDonald added 12 points with Lasan Kromah tallied 10 points
and five assists.
Andre Nation was the only player for James Madison (1-5) to score in double-
figures as he recorded 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 3-of-4
from beyond the arc. Nation also accounted for five steals and four blocked
shots in the outing.
The first half came to an end with the two squads tied 24-24 after JMU's Ron
Curry hit a jumper at the buzzer to even the score. The visitors made a total
of just nine field goals in the period and were 1-of-4 beyond the arc.
The second half was back and forth, but with just over two minutes remaining
Patricio Garino hit a three-pointer that put George Washington on top 52-50
and then added a pair of free throws in the final seconds to give the visitors
a four-point advantage. A late three-point conversion by Nation cut the lead
to just a single point, but that's as close as JMU would get.
The Colonials shot just 38.2 percent from the floor and turned the ball over
16 times, but they earned a 40-28 rebounding edge over the Dukes in the
victory.
