West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - A.J. Hammons scored 15 points for the
Purdue Boilermakers as they defeated the Ball State Cardinals 66-56 at Mackey
Arena.
Hammons was 6-of-8 from the field and recorded three blocks for the
Boilermakers (5-6) who were able to break a two-game losing streak. Terone
Johnson added 14 points while both Ronnie Johnson and D.J. Byrd scored 11
points each. Jacob Lawson dominated the boards with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Jesse Berry scored 22 points for Ball State (5-5) which saw its three-game
winning streak come to an end. Marcus Posley was the only other Cardinal
player in double-figures scoring with 12 points off the bench while Majok
Majok pulled down 10 rebounds.
Purdue led 27-21 at the break despite shooting 35.5 percent from the field due
to Ball State shooting even worse at 32.0 percent.
In the second half the Boilermakers were much more efficient, shooting 57.1
percent from the floor and outscoring the Cardinals 39-35 to finish off the
win.
Ball State had 17 turnovers which led to 17 points for Purdue.
