Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Jamelle Hagins registered a double-double with
14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds as he helped guide the Delaware Blue
Hens to a 73-66 win over the Rider Broncs in non-conference play at the Bob
Carpenter Center.
Josh Brinkley scored a game-high 17 points and cleared eight boards for the
Blue Hens (5-8) as they won their second straight game. Jarvis Threatt and
Devon Saddler both contributed 12 points, the latter handing out a game-high
seven assists in an effort to offset his 4-of-14 shooting from the floor.
The Broncs (6-8) were paced by Daniel Stewart and Nurideen Lindsey with 13
points apiece, while Jonathon Thompson contributed 10 and seven boards, to go
along with four assists, but still the team bowed for the fourth time in as
many games.
Both teams shot under 39 percent from the floor in the first half, but with
just 2-of-10 accuracy behind the 3-point line in the frame, Rider found itself
trailing at the break, 39-32.
In the second half the Hens, who led by as many as 13 points in the period,
missed all seven chances beyond the arc and connected on just 37.5 percent
from the field, but still the team held on for the seven-point win.
In a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes, the hens outscored
Rider at the free-throw line by an 18-11 margin and also crushed the Broncs on
the glass, 52-31.
