Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Pierre Jackson scored 18 points, leading four
starters in double figures, as the Baylor Bears crushed the Texas Tech Red
Raiders, 82-48, in a Big 12 Conference showdown at United Spirit Arena.
Jackson, who shot 3-of-6 behind the 3-point line, added seven assists and five
rebounds for the Bears (10-4, 2-0 Big 12) as they picked up their second
straight win and the fifth in six games. Cory Jefferson added 17 points and
eight boards, Isaiah Austin 17 points and Brady Heslip 11, while Rico Gathers
accounted for seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench for the
visitors.
The Red Raiders (8-5, 1-1) were paced by Jaye Crockett, the only double-digit
scorer for the hosts with 13 points in a reserve role, as the team had a
three-game win streak snapped.
Baylor wasted little time in taking care of the home team as the Bears shot
51.7 percent from the floor in the first half, en route to a commanding 42-23
advantage at the break. Tech converted just 31.0 percent from the field
through the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half it was more of the same as the Red Raiders were limited to
nine field goals and Baylor knocked down 55.6 percent in order to cruise to
the 34-point victory.
Texas tech finished the night shooting only 5-of-24 beyond the arc, compared
to the visitors who hit on 8-of-14 on the outside.
