Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kellen Thornton hung up 28 points and brought
down 16 rebounds as the Tennessee State Tigers rolled over the SE Missouri
State Redhawks, 81-69, in an Ohio Valley Conference conflict at the Gentry
Center.
Patrick Miller contributed 20 points and five assists and Jordan Cyphers had
14 points for Tennessee State (11-7, 5-0 OVC) which has won six straight.
Corey Wilford had 15 points, Nino Johnson added 14 and Tyler Stone and Nick
Niemczyk each finished with 13 for SE Missouri State (10-9, 2-3) which has
lost four straight.
The Tigers got out to a 43-29 lead at the half by shooting 64 percent
including a 6-of-9 showing from beyond the arc. The Redhawks fell behind by
shooting just 38.5 percent although they did hit 5-of-9 shots from 3-point
range.
In the second half Tennessee State cooled to 36.7 percent shooting but a 14-2
edge from the free-throw line allowed the Tigers to coast to the win.
Tennessee State outscored SE Missouri State 24-18 in the paint and had a
36-32 edge in rebounds.
