Carbondale, IL (Sports Network) - Desmar Jackson's game-high 29 points powered
the Southern Illinois Salukis to a 76-71 victory over the Indiana State
Sycamores in a Missouri Valley Conference conflict at SIU Arena.
Anthony Beane chipped in 11 points for Southern Illinois (8-8, 1-4) which
ended a five-game losing streak in earning its first conference victory this
season.
Manny Arop had 16 points, Lucas Eitel and Jake Odum each added 15 and Justin
Gant chipped in 10 more for Indiana State (10-6, 3-2) which has lost three of
its last four.
The Salukis led 31-27 at the end of the first half despite shooting just 35.5
percent from the field by outscoring the Sycamores from the 3-point arc (3-0)
and the free-throw line (8-5). Indiana State shot 40.7 percent in the first
half.
In the second half Southern Illinois heated up to an even 50 percent shooting
effort and doubled up the Sycamores, 24-12, from the free-throw line to secure
the victory.
Southern Illinois had a 14-5 edge in second chance points and a 21-10
advantage on points off turnovers.
