Davis, CA (Sports Network) - Behind 28 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks
from Alan Williams, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated the UC Davis Aggies,
66-59, in a Big West Conference showdown at The Pavilion.
Williams shot 11-of-18 from the field and was just one points shy of his
career-high set on Dec. 1 against Santa Clara. T.J. Taylor added 10 points and
six assists for UCSB (6-10, 2-3 Big West), which had lost its previous two
games.
For UC Davis (5-10, 1-3), Corey Hawkins put up 23 points, Josh Ritchart had 12
points, Ryan Sypkens netted 11 points, and Ryan Howley ripped down 10
rebounds.
UCSB shot 42.3 percent from the field in the first half and drained 8-of-11
from the free-throw line as it got out to a 33-23 lead at the break.
UC Davis brought its deficit to just three, 62-59, with a minute left in the
game following a Hawkins 3-pointer, but the Gauchos closed out the contest by
shooting 4-of-4 from the foul line down the stretch.
The Aggies shot just 36.7 percent from the field in the game and lost the
rebounding battle, 37-30.
