Bridgeport, CT (Sports Network) - Antoine Mason scored a game-high 17 points
as the Niagara Purple Eagles held off the Fairfield Stags, 67-64, in a Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at Webster Bank Arena.
Mason was dreadful from the field (2-of-13) but he made all 12 of his free
throw attempts for Niagara (9-8, 5-1 MAAC), which has won five straight
conference games and four of its last five overall. T.J. Cline chipped in 12
points, while Ameen Tanksley added 10 points for the visitors.
For Fairfield (10-8, 2-4), Justin Jenkins netted 16 points, while Derek
Needham and Maurice Barrow each scored 10 points.
Both teams shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, but Niagara
drained three 3-pointers and went 10-of-13 from the foul line to take a 37-33
lead at intermission.
In a back-and-forth second half, Fairfield broke a 50-50 tie at the 5:35
following a 1-of-2 trip to the foul line by Jenkins, but Niagara would retake
the lead two minutes later on a Juan'ya Green layup, which proved to be the
game-winner.
The Purple Eagles forced the Stags into 16 turnovers while committing just
five themselves.
